Jonathan Barber

BIOGRAPHY

After reading engineering at Brunel University, and following his early years with the Times Newspaper, Jonathan Barber joined Ogilvy & Mather in investor relations. In 1986 he founded Falcon Asset Management (merged with Bentley-Leek Financial Management in 2004). In 1993 Jonathan joined the Committee of the European Federation of Financial Analysts [EFFAS] for the Edinburgh conference and began developing the concept of environmental risk rating. He is the Managing Director of Extra-Financial Risk [EFR] providing research and analysis on Indian companies and other emerging markets. He is a member of the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation [CSFI] Advisery Council and has become a leading authority in reputational risk assessment.

BIOGRAPHY

Keith Faulkner is an experienced consulting actuary [FIA, ASA] who has held senior positions in the pension consulting industry on both sides of the Atlantic. Keith began his career in the 1970s with Duncan C Fraser, an actuarial consulting firm. Later, he was recruited by Mercer, the world’s largest actuarial consulting firm, to work first in the United States and then back in London. During a career spanning almost 30 years, Keith was a Worldwide Partner, UK Board Director and Practice Leader with Mercer. More recently, he worked with a large global actuarial network to establish their international consulting practice before setting up Pension Adviser Review Ltd [PAR], an independent firm advising trustees and companies on the selection and management of their pension and actuarial consultants.

BIOGRAPHY

Seamus Gillen spent many years working in Whitehall, and was Private Secretary and adviser to John Prescott MP, Deputy Prime Minister, and John Gummer MP, Secretary of State for the Environment. He moved into industry as the Company Secretary and Director of Regulation of Anglian Water [later AWG] and was subsequently Head of Public Policy at mmO2. He left to set up his own company advising businesses on strategic disclosure, reputational risk and corporate responsibility, and advises AEIA on governance and public policy issues. Seamus is an MBA and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

BIOGRAPHY

Philip Ingman FRICS ASI is Managing Director of Strutt & Parker Real Estate Financial Services Ltd (SPEFS). He was previously with LET plc and then SPP where he helped set up the fund management division, Celexa. During the 1990s Celexa was one of the best performing real estate asset managers with consistent good performance. He joined forces with Strutt & Parker in 2001 to set up SPREFS to provide a range of financial services on property backed assets. He currently sits on the Routes to Authorisation Group of the Investment Property Forum, is a Faculty Board member for the Investment Education Program and sits on numerous other committees especially in relation to REITS and Authorised Property Trusts where he represents the RICS at meetings with HM Treasury. Philip is a regular speaker at conferences on indirect investments and private client needs.

Trevor Robinson

BIOGRAPHY

Trevor Robinson’s entire business career has been spent in the derivatives markets. Prior to 1987 he worked for various brokers in London and, at the beginning of 1987, he moved into investment management when he was appointed Head of Derivatives at Scottish Provident in Edinburgh. In 1990 he was subsequently appointed Head of Derivatives and a Director of Fidelity International. Whilst at Fidelity, Trevor was responsible for all transactions in derivatives. This role covered equities, bonds and currencies. Trevor has helped UK regulators in designing and implementing rules on how derivatives should be used in unit trusts and insurance funds. He has also served on the Institutional Advisery Group of LIFFE, on the derivatives examination committee at The Securities Institute and on various committees at the UK Futures and Options Association. In the summer of 1994, Trevor set up his own company which specialises in advising institutional investors on the sensible and appropriate use of derivatives - but above all, on the proper control of such products - in their investment portfolios. He also advises clients on alternative investments, such as hedge funds. The NAPF has published a booklet in its “Made Simple” series, entitled “Equity Derivatives Made Simple”, of which Trevor was the author.

BIOGRAPHY

Eric Smart joined Philips & Drew Fund Management [now UBS Global Asset Management] where he was an Executive Director responsible for all aspects of their Client Audit programme. Subsequently, he also developed and managed their trustee training and education programme. Eric manages and acts as chairman for AEIA’s tailored trustee training courses and seminars which draw on the wide experience and skills within AEIA’s panel of investment experts. AEIA specialises in creating ‘tailored’ training courses for specific pension schemes.
